Childcare Money Saving Schemes

The current financial climate is a challenging one for most household budgets with inflation and rising energy costs causing strain and affecting other necessary services households need to pay for such as childcare.

At Activ Camps, we are registered with a great number of voucher providers and government schemes that can help save a huge amount of money on childcare throughout the course of a year, helping ease the strain and continuing to provide trusted and high-quality childcare.

Tax-Free Childcare

The government’s Tax-Free Childcare scheme offers up to £500 every 3 months and up to £2,000 a year towards childcare per child. In other words, once you have registered with the scheme, for every £8 that you put in, the government will add a further £2, which can mean huge and consistent savings when booking childcare. That’s a 20% discount on all childcare (subject to the £2,000 cap).

You can use this to pay for Ofsted-approved childcare providers and childminders such as Activ Camps.

How do I know if I qualify?

1.3 million families in the UK qualify for this scheme, interestingly however, it has had a very low uptake with around 800,000 not currently using this. Money Saving Expert’s Martin Lewis, has been urging families to take advantage of this scheme with thousands of pounds worth of savings being missed out on every year.

All workers, including the self-employed qualify for the scheme. To qualify you must:

  • Have children who are 11 or younger (16 if they are disabled)
  • Earn less than £100,000 a year but at least the minimum wage.

You can register for this scheme, as well as learn more here. Just to note, if are receiving any other benefits (and not just for childcare), registering with this scheme will automatically cancel all of those benefits.

Can I use Tax-Free Childcare to pay for my Activ Camp bookings?

Yes and we encourage you to do so! When booking you are presented with the option of paying via Tax-Free Childcare. All you need to do is select this, head to your account, and find your registered venue there. We’ll then just need the small reference given after payment to locate your payment when it arrives.

Childcare vouchers & backup care schemes

Childcare vouchers are available through employer schemes where you can use your pre-tax salary through a salary sacrifice to pay for registered childcare. Although this scheme is generally closed to new applicants, many employers have continued with the scheme.

Many employers also have childcare schemes that offer a limited number of free childcare days to employees for registered childcare. These include companies such as Bright Horizons and My Family Care. These companies can help you arrange these days with registered childcare providers, including Activ Camps.

If your employer may offer these schemes be sure to check with them as you could be missing out on some big savings.

Universal Credit

If you’re eligible for Universal Credit, you may also be eligible to receive up to 85% of your childcare costs back. This has a maximum cap of £646 per month for one child, and £1,108 for two children.

How do I know if I qualify?

Check here. Often people are unaware that they qualify for these benefits and assistance with childcare costs.

Can I pay for my bookings with Activ Camps using this?

Yes. As an Ofsted-registered childcare provider, you can claim some of the costs as highlighted above for bookings with Activ Camps.

When you have booked and paid for your booking in full, you can drop us a quick message or call to receive an invoice with all of the required information, including our Ofsted details to make the claim.

Help with childcare if you are currently studying

There are several schemes available if you are currently enrolled in learning or education. The most notable of these is the Childcare Grant Payment Service (CCGPS). This can cover up to 85% of your childcare costs and is paid on top of your other student finance. Check the GOV website for more details.

Again, this can cover Activ Camps bookings, with you only having to pay 15% of the total cost and we will claim the rest directly via the scheme.

We hope all of the above may prove useful to many of you. We actively promote and encourage you to use these schemes to pay for your childcare, especially Tax-Free Childcare, which is open to a huge proportion of families who use Activ Camps every year.

If you’d like to learn more about paying via these methods with Activ Camps. Head over to our Childcare Vouchers & Tax-Free Childcare Page.
