FAQs
The minimum age to work at Activ Camps is 18 years old. Should you be under the age 18, we would still consider your application but you will only be able to start by the time you are 18.
Absolutely! If you are enthusiastic, positive and demonstrate a willingness to learn we will definitely consider your application. We will then provide you with all the necessary training ahead of camps starting.
Activ Camps is committed to upholding the highest standards of safeguarding and child protection. A safer recruitment process is about ensuring that anyone applying to work at Activ Camps is suitable to be working with children.
Click here to read our blog on the Safer Recruitment Process.
The first step is to complete our application form.
You will be invited to attend an online interview which is an opportunity for us to find out about your experience and motivations, as well as being a chance for you to find out more about the roles we have available.
Should your interview be successful, you will be invited to attend an in-person Training & Recruitment Day where we will assess your suitability in greater detail and provide you with the training you need to succeed when working at children’s multi-activity camps.
The final step is to ensure that you have all the necessary documentation to ensure your suitability to work with children.
- Enhanced DBS check for the Children’s Workforce
We require all staff members to complete an Enhanced DBS for the Children’s Workforce. This essentially checks to see if you have a criminal record and if you are suitable to work with children.
Our lovely staffing team can help you to complete this check and strongly recommends that if you do have a criminal record, you declare to us the details of this in advance.
To declare previous convictions, please click here to complete our Self Disclosure Form – this form won’t be reviewed until after you have been interviewed so as not to affect your application.

2. Two suitable references
We must also be able to obtain two suitable references.
Your chosen referees should preferably have knowledge of your work or contact with young people, and should be able to comment on your character and relationships with others. It is essential that referees are non-personal, i.e. friends, family members or neighbours will not be accepted.
3. Evidence of right to work in the UK
We require all applicants to provide evidence of their right in the UK.
Should you hold a UK or Ireland passport, you automatically have the right to work in the UK. We will just need to see this person ahead of working.
Should you not hold a UK or Ireland passport, you will be requested to provide a share code. This link provides you further information.
Activ Camps is unable to sponsor visa applications.
If any of the above points sound daunting, please don’t worry. Our staffing team is here to guide you through this process.
The in-person day is interactive, practical and fun!
You will receive training on how to lead the perfect session, gain a foundational understanding of how our camps are run, receive enhanced safeguarding training and gain a better understanding of our policies and procedures.
This Training & Recruitment is an integral, if not the most integral, part of the application process. Your performance and engagement levels will be assessed throughout.
Aside from the training you gain at our Training & Recruitment Day, we provide you with the below training:
- An accredited, level one safeguarding course
- Activ Camps e-learning modules
We also regularly run Ofsted recognised, 12 hour paediatric first aid courses throughout the year at no cost to you which will help you in applying for management roles on camp, as well as support your wider employment within childcare and is an amazing skill to have.
You can view the dates of our 2023 Training & Recruitment Days here. Please don’t just turn up, make sure that you’re booked in beforehand.
No! One of the benefits of working with Activ Camps is that the work we offer is flexible to fit around your schedule.
So if this coming summer you have a two week holiday booked in the middle of the summer, you could work the two weeks before to build up that spending money and then, once you’ve spent all that money on your travels, come back for another couple of weeks so as to top back up the funds.
When applying to work, please bear in mind that we heavily prioritise those who can work full weeks (Monday – Friday).
You will be asked to complete our Availability Survey for the holiday ahead. This is your opportunity to indicate the venues you are willing to work at and which you are not.
We will then factor this in when creating our rotas for the coming holiday. Please note that the more camps you are willing to work at, the more shifts become available to you and, therefore, the more likely you are to receive your preferred dates of work.
We like to maintain consistent teams as much as possible on camp, enabling staff and children to develop positive relationships over the course of the week.
Very occasionally, due to a number of potential reasons, you may be be asked to work at numerous camps in any given holiday. However, as we run all the same policies, procedures and activities across all our camps you will be well prepared. It’s simply a great opportunity for you to meet more of the Activ Camps team and to test your skills in a new setting.
Being placed on Paid Standby means that you have been booked into work but will find out your venue within 24 hours of the shift and your allocated camp may change day by day.
This allows us to have staff members in reserve to cover any staff absences or offer further support at camps if required.
You will be notified of the venue that you are required to work at by 8.30am latest each morning and are then expected to reach the camp and start at 9.30am.
Despite the later start your daily rate of pay will remain the same, which is a great bonus and is our way of thanking you for your flexibility!
Your hours of work are 8.15am – 5.15pm and your day will absolutely fly by!
You should arrive at camp no later than 8.10am, ready for the morning briefing. From 8.30am the children will start to arrive and sign in. You will either be helping to settle in the children by leading fun, ice breaker activities or you will be assisting in setting up the array of amazing activities that we’ll be running that day.
After all the children have arrived and been organised into groups, their day (and yours) will consist of seven 45 minute fun-filled activities plus lunch and a couple of breaks.
You will be allocated one of these sessions for your lunch break and, no matter the temptation of staying to join in, we encourage you to step away from the children to eat and recuperate.
You may find yourself timetabled with one group throughout the day or bouncing between groups of varying ages. The age range of the camp is 4-14.
Yes!
You will be provided with 2 x t-shirts and 1 x hoodie which are yours to keep for future holidays working with Activ Camps.
Please otherwise wear clothes that you’re comfortable in and can safely participate in sports in. You should wear closed toe, flat shoes; sliders and crocs are not permitted
Your day rate is age dependent. Our pay rates for 2023 can be found here
You will receive payment by the end of every calendar month. We may at times be able to facilitate an earlier payment post camp; this will always be communicated in advance.
Yes! Once you have successfully come through our safer recruitment process, you will receive job alerts for other work opportunities over the course of the year.
These might include helping to run birthday parties, team building events and community fairs!
Once you’ve completed the application process and worked on camp, you will not need to repeat the process again. You will be on our books and receive job alerts for upcoming holidays and events.
At times, you may be requested to complete additional training to ensure that you’re skills and knowledge are up to date so that you can provide the very best care for the children joining us.
