Some of you might remember this from when the St. John’s Ambulance Service came to your school and talked about first aid.
Well Will, Matteo (from the Activ Adventures team) and I have recently been on an Outdoor First Aid Course to further our knowledge, understanding and skills when it comes to administering first aid.
Running multi-activity camps and Fun Days allows us these awesome opportunities. Activ Camps believes that this regular training is really important, not only because we work with children but for everyday life. We feel that everyone should acquire at least some basic knowledge. Why?
Well, a recent statistic, released by St John’s Ambulance, has revealed that 140,000 people pass away each year in the UK from incidents where first aid could have possibly saved their lives.
This is a shocking fact, and having been on this course held at the Castle Climbing Centre I now feel a lot more confident to step in and help if there were to be a major incident or accident. Simulating incidents halfway up a mountain, on the edge of a rock face and aside a raging white-water rapid is great training!
