Splashing our friends, diving down to touch the bottom of the swimming pool and practicing our Tom Daley dives were, for many, special memories from our childhoods. These are memories that all children should have the opportunity to make in a safe swimming environment and at Activ Camps they can!
During the half term holiday I joined a group at Balham Leisure Centre to complete my National Pool Lifeguard Qualification and it was great!
The theoretical training consolidated my confidence in our current procedures, with three lifeguards on pool side and two instructors in the water at our Emanuel School Camp our supervision levels are over and above industry standards.
The repeated, vigorous testing of rescue techniques has given me a great respect for those lifeguards we have on our pool side at Activ Camps Wimbledon College and Emanuel School and confidence in their ability to act quickly and efficiently if necessary.
The First Aid element allowed me to apply my existing knowledge to a pool side or in water scenario. Finally, the fitness testing. Well, I am pleased to know that I can keep shoulder to shoulder with swimmers much my junior but that’s not to say it didn’t hurt.
