MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK 2018

MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK 2018

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week and this year the main focus is stress and how it plays a key role in leading to mental health problems. By learning ways in which we can manage our stress, mental health issues such as depression and anxiety can be hugely decreased.
Mental Health First Aid England has created a great new toolkit to help you #AddressYourStress and it focuses on a few main points; understanding your triggers, managing your stress levels and reducing the impact of stress on your health and life*.
Sources of Stress
“1 in 6 adults in Britain will experience depression, anxiety or problems relating to stress at any one time” which just goes to show how prevalent stress is in our daily lives*. Stress can be attributed to many different sources and they are not always negative! Check out the MHFA page for a closer look at this great image of the possible sources of stress.
Managing your Stress
Keeping activ outdoors is a great way of helping to prevent and minimise daily stress and at Activ Camps we are all about getting the children moving and having plenty of non-stop fun while they’re at it! Ensuring you get plenty of sleep and eating well are also ways to manage stress.
There are also plenty of supportive contacts available if you feel like you could use some help with your stress management and we have listed just a few below.
Reducing the Impacts of Stress
A great way to reduce the impact of stress is to identify your triggers and whether you are able to take control of the situation or not. Acknowledging the things that you can change and those you can’t can help to prevent becoming overwhelmed or anxious*.
Having a strong support group of friends and family can also play an important role in the impact that stress has on your mood.
